Do not pass go. Do not go to Pisa. Italian Labor Federation on strike at airports

Ah, travel is full of surprises. Got to Frankfurt Hahn airport this morning to discover flights to Italy cancelled. So first we considered going to Rimini late tonight after the strike was to end (8 hour stoppage), but worried might extend. Finally opted for a 6 am flight next morning to Rome. We then get a train to Assisi for 1 night and to Cortona from there. Not sure where we will stay, but we have faith in St. Francis. So. No go for Pisa or Volterra- maybe next time.

What to do with our day here in Germany? We rented a car drove to the nearby
Mosel wine town of Bernkastel-Kursk, saw many half-timbered buildings, walked up to an old castle and gorgeous view of river valley and town, and sat in the garden having tea (me) and beer.

Here, I hope, is a photo.
